Gina Carano Cancelled from the Mandalorian by Lucasfilm

Gina Carano Mandalorian

Gina Joy Carano (born April 16, 1982) is an American actress, television personality, fitness model, and former mixed martial artist (MMA) champion. She competed in EliteXC and Strikeforce from 2006 to 2009, where she compiled a 7–1 record. Her popularity led to her being called the "face of women's MMA", although Carano rejected this title.

Transitioning from the ring to the screen, Carano landed her first major role as the lead of the action film Haywire (2011), which was followed by appearances in the films Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Deadpool (2016). Carano also portrayed Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Disney+ space Western series The Mandalorian from 2019 to 2020. Following a series of controversial posts she made to social media, Lucasfilm announced in 2021 that she would not return for subsequent seasons.

How was Gina Carano Cancelled?

Gina Carano was dropped from the popular Disney show, the Mandalorian, in February 2021 over a controversial Instagram post.
Gina Carano's Instagram post
Carano posted a picture with the caption “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Why was Gina fired? According to Lucasfilm, “Her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable." Critics of Disney’s actions, such as Jewish pundit Ben Shapiro, countered that referring to historical facts about the holocaust is in no way denigrating to Jews.

This is not the first time Carano has ruffled feathers with her social media posts. Back in September 2020, she caught flack for putting “boop/bop/beep” in her Twitter bio, which many saw as mocking transgenders. Several entertainment news sites have reported that co-star Pedro Pascal, whose sister Lux is transgender, convinced Carano to change course.

Carano recently posted a picture on her Instagram story of a person wearing cloth masks over their entire head, with the caption “Meanwhile in California”. Several journalists surmised that Carano was mocking the idea of face masks as an effective means of controlling the spread of Covid, and are simply a way to control American citizens against their will.

Who Cancelled Gina Carano?

Kathleen Kennedy Lucasfilms
According to many news outlets, Lucasfilm had been searching for a reason to fire Gina for several months before her post about Nazi Germany and modern conservatives. It’s probable that her Instagram post comparing Jews under Hitler to Republicans, was the last straw.

Cancel Comeback hasn’t been able to find information about the specific people involved in Carano’s firing, however, it’s probable that Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president, had a hand in doing so. Kennedy, pictured above, is a Hollywood veteran who has worked for top players such as Steven Spielberg. She produced the films War of the Worlds and Munich, for which she won an Academy Award.
Pedro Pascal Tweet
PJ Media reported Carano’s co-star, Pedro Pascal, posted a tweet comparing immigrants held at the US border and Jews held in Nazi internment camps and has not been sanctioned. The body of the tweet is a picture of Jews being held in a concentration camp, set above a picture of children in cages at the US border. Pascal’s tweet shows the two pictures and situations in parallel, claiming there’s no difference. Despite this, he was not reprimanded in any way. Carano herself, and many pundits, have complained of a double standard and called on Disney to act in a balanced manner.

Time will tell if Kathleen Kennedy and her bosses at Disney will apply the same sanction to Pedro Pascal, a Left-leaning actor, or if celebrities viewed as Conservative will continue to be treated differently.

Gina Carano’s Comeback

What is Gina Carano doing now? After being dropped from the Mandalorian and fired from Lucasfilms, Carano immediately rebounded with plans for a comeback. According to the New York Post, Carano has started working on her own film project with Ben Shapiro’s media company, The Daily Wire. Carano stated, “They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them”. The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob.”

Ben Shapiro knows it’s a goldmine, as he said “We could not be more excited to be working with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian Hollywood Left. This is what Daily Wire exists to do: provide an alternative not just for consumers, but for creators who refuse to bow to the mob”, along with “We’re eager to bring Gina’s talent to Americans who love her, and we’re just as eager to show Hollywood that if they want to keep cancelling those who think differently, they’ll just be helping us build the Xwing to take down their Death Star”.

Could it be that Disney picked the wrong person to cancel? Maybe they should have found a softer target than an ex-champion of Mixed Martial Arts. If Shapiro and Carano can pull her project off, it may be a new model for combatting Cancel Culture.
